Description: | Warming temperatures and lengthening daylight bring a rebirth to the forests, fields, and wetlands of Michiana that cheer us up after a long winter: cardinals singing in the morning, the first red-winged blackbird at the marsh, spring peepers calling from roadside ditches, and wildflowers growing quickly as the earth warms up. This cyclical timing of natural events is known as phenology and it has become an important area of study as our climate changes and nature responds in a variety of ways. Naturalist Wendy Jones guides us through the weekly changes to watch for in animals, wildflowers, and trees as spring moves from March through May and shares the role nature's calendar plays in both a healthy environment and our daily lives. Presenter: Naturalist Wendy Jones is a popular and frequent speaker at the Friends of the Library’s Community Forums. |
